50th Anniversary Fun

The last few weeks of August were very busy for us not only with getting ready for school, but also for hanging out with family!! Bump's brother Ty and his family live in Ohio and we don't get to see them too often. Well, they were coming out to help their oldest daughter, Cass, move to BYU (the most awesome school on the planet - way to go Cougs!!) and so we decided to plan a few things for while everyone was together.

November 25, 2009 marks the 50th Wedding Anniversary of Bump's wonderful parents, Ron and Gloria (or Gus as we call her). While talking to them to try to figure out what they wanted to do for their Golden Anniversary they decided that they just wanted to get all their kids together and not have a big open house or anything like that. Cool. Ty and Jasmin were going to be in town anyway so we celebrated a few months early so everyone could be toge
ther.

On Friday night we had a small dinner with just the boys and their spouses at Maddox Restaurant in Brigham City. Ron and Gus just love Maddox and would
choose to eat there over just about any other place in the country. While we were there, my sister-in-law, Sue, presented them with an amazing Family Tree Quilt. She designed it herself and did all the work because she is just amazingly talented that way. The plaque on the trunk says Ronald Raymond Williams and Gloria Jean Maxfield, November 25, 1959. Each branch plaque has the name of a son and his wife (there are 4 boys) and the leaves are either blank or have a grand-child's name on it. The quilt turned out to be absolutely amazing from the piecing all the way down to the machine quilting to look like tree bark and wind swirls in the sky. I think the pictures speak for themselves. It was an amazing gift and Ron and Gus were just thrilled!
The next day, Saturday, the boys all headed up to Park City and the surrounding area for some "guy time" away from the wives and kids. Then we all met up in Syracuse for a much needed Williams family picture. The last picture taken was missing the last 3 grandkids and 2 of them were mine! We haven't gotten them back yet, but Fotogenix did an amazing job and I can't wait to see the prints. After pictures we each bought our own family dinners and headed to JT and Jen's house in Kaysville for some "hang out" time together.

Sunday evening everyone came out to our house for a BBQ. Half of the family had never been there and they were all able to experience the "stairs of death" (see previous posts) and check out what we have been up to for the last year and a half. It was fun to just hang out with each other again and play and talk and have fun just being together. We also watched old family videos of the boys growing up. Fun! (I have pictures, but can't get them on for some reason, sorry!)

Monday I took my sister-in-law, Jazz, to the Quilted Bear to waste a few hours drooling over everything that she couldn't take back with her to Ohio, and a few things she could. It was fun to get out!

Tuesday we actually had a Williams' girls day out. I have been married to Bump for almost 12 years and we have never had all of us sisters-in-law and mother-in-law together hanging out alone without our husbands! Crazy huh? It was so fun! We went to Tai Pan Trading and shopped a few hours, then we went to Fotogenix to preview our family pictures and choose the ones that we wanted and then we went to lunch at Cafe Rio, yum! Of course, the time went by way too fast and people had to get home to real life with kids and responsibilities, but it was sure fun while it lasted!

Overall I think the whole "Golden" celebration was a huge hit! We had fun as a family, made some great memories and were able to celebrate 2 amazing and selfless people who have had a successful life together and raised 4 amazing boys!

I'm so glad that you celebrated this. I know she squawks about people making a fuss, but it's so important that people let her know how much they love her. That quilt was amazing, that was so thoughtful of Sue. All of you are so great for putting together a wonderful time to celebrate two of my favorite people!
