Happy Birthdays in January!

January is a huge month for birthdays in the Wright family, so this post is dedicated to all of them!! Starting at the first of the month and continuing through the end. . .

3rd - Sage, my beautiful niece and the best nanny/babysitter ever!! She has been staying with me this month and has truly been a life saver! Happy 19th lady!!

3rd - Casi, my baby brother's wife and the most organized and amazing person that I know! She joined the family about 6 years ago and was the last to join the craziness of the Wright family, by choice (the kids don't get a say, do they?) She is a great mom and a wonderful example to me. We love Casi!
14th - Beautiful Lauren, my brother Dave's oldest girl and I think that she pretty much runs the house there in California doesn't she Dave? She loves to sing and dance and knows every word to all the High School Musical movies (I don't know even one!) She also loves Girl Scouts and is an excellent big sister to her 2 little sisters.
20th - Lt. Erick Blackham, my sister, Tera's cute hubby. I never get his exact military title right, but he is an officer in the US Army and is absolutely excelling in his chosen profession. I just love a man in uniform and Tera is lucky to have one of her own! He also makes amazing sushi rolls!!! Happy Birthday LT!!

21st - Me. I like long walks in the park in the fall and eating sushi. I love my cute hubby and my 3 perfect kids!! I had a great birthday - thank you everyone!!!

27th - McKenna, my brother Lee's number 2. She is quite the amazing little actress and gets the lead in everything she tries out for! People even call to ask her to come and be in their shows! She has a wonderful voice and a bubbly personality that you just love to be around! Happy Birthday Kenna and welcome to the world of Young Women's!!
27th - Thaddeus Derek or we like to call him just our Thad. He is my little brother and the number 7 out of 8 kids in the Wright family. I miss Thad. He and his cute family live in Georgia and we don't get to see them very often, but Thad is always an asset anywhere he lives. I am sure that Georgia is glad that he is there to make the state greater!!! Have a happy birthday today little brother! We are thinking of you!
29th - Tracy Annie, Tracy Jo or Truck depending on who's doing the talking. Tracy is my big sister and the 2nd oldest in the family. She lives the closest to me here in Grantsville and her hubby is our stake president! Tracy helped my mom loads while we were growing up and I think helped raise the 3 youngest kids! Now she has 4 almost grown kids of her own and is the queen of frugality - her favorite place to shop is DI and she finds some great stuff every time she goes!! Happy Birthday miss thrift - hope you have an absoltely amazing one!! Does DI have gift certificates??
30th - Bailey Bug, my sister Tera's number 2. She and Gabby are such great friends and they are so fun to watch play together! Bailey loves stuffed animals, and anything really small and tiny. She is stubborn and strong willed, but so creative and smart! Happy Birthday Bug!!

He played the role of Tiny Tim in Roger's Memorial Theater's musical version of A Christmas Carol when he was just 6 years old. His dad got to play Bob Crachit. Andrew is so smart and talented it will be fun to see what he gets involved in when he gets older!

Happy Birthday everyone!! Here's to the very best month of the year to be born in!!!

Bump's New Calling

I snapped a quick picture of Bump as he headed out for some ward visits last night (notice my new parlor curtains, by the way. It's looking a bit more Victorian every day!!)

A few weeks before Christmas we got a phone call from the Stake Executive Secretary asking Bump to meet with the Stake President (who is my sister's hubby, by the way) one Sunday morning. Normally they ask to meet with the person and their spouse, so I calmed his nerves telling him that it wasn't going to be a big deal because they didn't ask me to go with him. Well, Sunday morning rolled around and Bump got up and went to the Stake Presidents office. In about 10 minutes he came back and said to me, "Erin let me just apologize first." Okay, I thought, why would he be apologizing? Then he went on to say that I definitely needed to be there with him and needed to get ready to go really, really quick.

So, imagine with me. It's about 8:40am on Sunday morning and I am in my pj's just cleaning up breakfast and I need to be Sunday ready with all the kids dressed and ready to go also, because there isn't anybody else to watch them while we go. Oh, and I have about 10 minutes. No biggie, right? Well, it was an amazing feat, but it happened and we were sitting in the Stake Center about 15 minutes later looking our Sunday almost best, hair done and everything!! Thank goodness for pony tails and long hair!!

To make a long story short. Bump was called to be the 2nd Counselor in a new Bishopric that would be put in on the last Sunday of 2008. To say that Bump was a little shocked would be an understatement. He was amazed and quite humbled as he accepted the call and for the few weeks that have since followed.

It is always an amazing thing to see someone grow in a calling that may seem overwhelming to most people. We have lived in our ward for less than a year and so we don't know that many people. Before when I would be talking about a particular person in the ward Bump would listen politely, but since being put in the Bishopric he asks me who they are again and has me point out people to him so that he can really put names with faces. He contemplates everything and is so friendly and outgoing with everyone at church and when he sees them around town.

He feels overwhelmed at times and wonders how he can really be a help to the bishop when he doesn't know people very well, but he just genuinely loves people and it shows in everything that he does. I know that we will both grow by leaps and bounds as he faithfully fulfills this calling and any others that the Lord has in store for him throughout life. Callings come from God and those who are called are qualified. It should be a fun 5 years or so.

I love my kitchen floors

While cleaning my house today I started thinking about how much I love my kitchen and dining room floors. So many days I am just picking up all day after kids and cleaning up after snacks and meals and I have to really plan ahead to "deep clean" my house. Today I decided that I really needed to mop the dining room and kitchen. It has honestly been a few weeks since I mopped - I am sure that all of you super neat people are audibly gasping right now, but my awesome floors don't show the dirt and grime and that is why I love them!!

After having tile in some houses in the past I swore that I would never have tile floors. It's because of the the grout and how hard it is to clean. Well I'm not saying that it is any easier to clean, but because the previous owners used a really dark brown grout it doesn't show the dirt as well as lighter grout does. So I actually like my tile floors and really wouldn't change them!

So, between the dog (who is the greatest at cleaning up food messes that all 3 of my kids create daily) and a quick sweep once in awhile I have it made as far as my floors at least looking good every day!! The above picture was taken before I even touched the floors today - yes there is actually dirt on those floors. I was going to post an "after" moping picture, but when I took the picture it looked like I was just posting the same picture, so I just left it off.

In reading back over this post I sound like I don't keep a very clean house, when in reality I feel like I do a darn good job considering my 3 little Tasmanian Devils that live here. But in contrast to my tile floors I do have some dark wood floors in the living room and parlor that show every particle of dust and they get swept and/or Swiffered every other day or so. You can see every spot that I miss on those floors.

Anyway, I love my tile floors and would recommend them to anyone. Especially those with small children and pets in the winter!!! Anything to make life a little easier, right?!!

I skipped right over Christmas

I have been absolutely terrible about blogging lately and I have completely skipped some very important occasions! It doesn't seem like it should be the middle of January already. I feel like I was just getting ready for Christmas yesterday and now it is all taken down and life is just plugging along like normal.

I did want to post something about Christmas for memory sake. Christmas Day and the two days following were supposed to be completely dedicated to the Wright family (an unofficial family reunion, I guess). My parents and grandparents were coming from Washington, Dave and his family were coming from California and even my sister, Jamie was surprising everyone by coming in from Nauvoo. Most of the family would have all been together, but as many of you can remember there were some terrible storms the week leading up to Christmas and travel from any of those places was dangerous and in some cases almost impossible!

My parents and grandparents were snowed in up in Washington and roads across Wyoming and even coming up from So. Cal were terrible!! So, instead we ended up just getting together with those of us living here in Utah on Saturday after Christmas to spend the day together. It is always great to get together with my family for any amount of time, but we sure missed those from out-of-state who couldn't be with us.

Christmas at our house was quiet and nice. We spent the morning and most of the day just at our house with the kids playing with their new toys. Christmas afternoon we were invited to go to Bump's brother's house in Kaysville, but there was supposed to be another big storm that day and the wind was so terrible that we decided to pass. Then my sister, Tracy (who lives here in Grantsville), called and invited us over to share their Christmas dinner with them. So, we braved the terrible wind for almost 2 whole miles to go over to Tracy's house. We had some yummy turkey and had fun playing some of their new Christmas board games.

Overall we had a nice and very relaxing Christmas. Bump had almost 2 weeks off of work (with a few scattered working days mixed in, but mostly they were half days with not much going on). It was really, really hard for me to have him go back to work. I just love spending time with him so much and really appreciated the time we got to have him home doing nothing but relaxing thanks to the weather!!

We also had a really fun New Years Eve with some wonderful friends, The McMillans. We went to their house for dinner and then games, which we love to play!! They have probably rang in the New Year with us more times than anyone else over the many, many years that we have known them! It was great to do it again and the kids were wonderful for us!!!

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and Welcome 2009!!!!!

Say Hello to Grassa

Gabby just loves fairies right now and got Tinker Bell and some friends for Christmas from Santa. Well, a few days ago Grandma Williams gave us some fairies that she thought Gabby would love to have hanging around her bedroom. So, we have been planning to hang them for her, but decided to show them to her first. So, yesterday we showed her the fairies and she was almost more excited about them then she was on Christmas morning with Tinker Bell.

She took them all out and immediately started telling us their names - so cute. I am spelling them how she pronounced them. . . The green one is "Grassuh," the purple one was "Purpl-uh," then she changed it a little while later to "Floweruh," The blue one was "Water-uh," then she changed her to "Colduh." The red/pink one was "Rosa" and the peachy colored one was "Skinuh," because she is skin colored.

It's so funny to see her little mind in action and these fairies have completely come alive as far as she is concerned! We are happy to have Grassa, Flowera, Colda, Rosa and Skinna bringing their magic into our home!! They find their way into the most amazing places around the house. By the way, I took the above picture of Grassa where Gabby had hung her on an old light switch by the front door. I did not pose her there.
