Washington Trip Day 4 and Wrap-Up

Day 4 was spent just relaxing at the house again, recovering from our long previous day at the beach. It was a really hot day for Washington. The carport temperature gauge read 94 degrees. Mom gave the kids squirt bottles that they went around spraying and everyone tried to keep cool in the shade. The local grocery was sold out of popsicles, but my mom found a few ice cream bars with Spanish labels that, I guess, nobody else wanted! They were good and cool. She also took the kids to the park to play for awhile until it got too hot! The girls were also able to string up some beads that my grandma had and make necklaces. They were never bored!

That night Tera and I played Scrabble and Boggle with my parents and slept well to prepare us for our long drive the next day.

We had an absolutely amazing time! It was the perfect length of time for us, the kids and for all grandmas and grandpas involved! We left Thursday morning and had a really great drive back to Utah. The kids did so great on the drive and Tera and I just kept on going until we reached her home in Logan at just after 2am.

We did have an amazing thing happen toward the end of our drive. Tera and I talked and talked on the whole drive and made it go by so fast, but after the kids fell asleep and the car was quiet we didn't pay as good of attention as we should have to the gas tank. When we realized that we were pretty low we were pretty much in the middle of nowhere between Nampa, ID and Tremonton, UT. A sign on the road said "next services 30 miles" just as the gas light came on. So, we said a little prayer that we would make it to the gas station and not run out of gas.

Tera decided to slow the car down to conserve on gas and went between 55 and 60 mph. Well, it's a good thing that she did because about 15 miles into it we came upon some deer that were walking across the freeway. Because she wasn't going 75 mph like we had been she was able to slow the car enough and turn away from the deer in time so that we didn't hit any of them. We definitely recognized the miracle that had happened for us and then made it safely to the gas station on fumes!!

It was an amazing trip and we had a great time, but it's good to be home and to see Bump and Quincy again. I am tired, but really, what a great way to start the summer, right? Thanks, Mom and Dad, for an absolutely wonderful time!

What a cool miracle to miss the deer and make it to the gas station. I'm glad you're home.

I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason. All of the gas issues probably happened so you DIDN'T hit those deer. That could have been really bad. We are certainly being watched over. Especially someone as spiritual and great as you! Thanks for your example.
