Draper Temple Open House

This past Sunday was our stake conference. First, I need to just say what a pleasure the whole conference was! My niece, Kaylea, came and babysat for us on Saturday night so that Bump and I could go to the adult session. Then we took the kids and slept over at Bump's parent's house that night and left them in the morning and went to stake conference childless! It's not that I would normally leave them just because it is stake conference, but Bump and I sang in the choir and decided it would be easier to just leave them "at home" then make someone have to miss the talks because of dealing with our kids for us. So, thank you, Grandma and Grandpa for allowing us to leave the kids with you!!

Anyway, we had a wonderful conference and I appreaciated every talk because I could completely concentrate on each one of them! One woman spoke about when she took her young kids to the Bountiful Temple open house and what a wonderful experience that was for them. The thought completely hit me that right now the Draper Temple open house is going on and I am sad to say that I never even thought to take my young kids to see it! In my mind I was just thinking about the dedication and that kids need to be at least 8 years old to attend that.

Well, with our crazy schedules it seemed a tough task to go as a family, so I told Bump that I was just going to go myself and take the kids during the day. So, we went today and what a great experience!! My sister, Tracy, came along because she hadn't gone yet and was so nice to help me out with the kids!

They loved every second of it! All 3 kids were so good! They walked reverently and spoke softly and listened really well. I wish I could have gotten a picture of Quincy walking around with the little brochure that they gave each guest. She had it unfolded like a map and was just walking along looking at it and everything around her. She even whispered just like everyone else around her. All 3 kids eyes were huge when they looked at the beautiful chandelier in the celestial room - but Quincy could just stare and stare at all the beautiful crystals!

It was such a treat to see how they respected and enjoyed the temple in their own special ways. Gabby said that her favorite room was "the room that you get married in" (the sealing rooms). She always talks about the temple as the place where we got married and it was neat to be able to sit in that room and show her what that experience was like.

We are so blessed to be able to have opportunities like that for our kids so close to home! I am so glad that I didn't miss out on sharing such a wonderful experience with my kids!

Getting to the church where we watched a video and then got on the bus to take us up to the temple.

That is so neat. It makes me even more excited to get our temple finished and share it with my boys.

I kept my kids out of school and took them one morning a couple weeks ago. The next day Lee mentioned that he was going to go do Baptisms for the dead with the youth and Parlee said, "Is that the water on top of the cows?" Lee stared at her with amazement trying to figure out how she new that. Then remembered that had just been to the temple. My kids all walked around with their brochures just like Quincy. Emi only wanted to see the room with circular benches (the front lobby). I thought the set up in the chapel they took you to afterward was just as beautiful as the temple. What a neat experience.
