Our First Egg

First, if you haven't read the next post about our chickens, STOP and read that first and then come back to this post!

This morning Gabby kept asking over and over if she could check for eggs. I kept telling her to leave the chickens alone while they were laying their eggs. Lucky for her there is a little crack by the nesting box for her to look in. So, she kept peeking in to see what was going on. Later in the morning she came running in saying that she could see an egg and wanted an easter basket to put it in.

I need to point out that she said she didn't want the plastic easter baskets that they got this Easter, but a REAL basket, because that's what you put "real" eggs in. Duh, of course that's what you need to use!

I told her that since there was only one egg we didn't need a basket, she could just hold it. Then I let her collect the egg. What she doesn't know is that there is another egg out there now just waiting for her to come home from school. Yeah! Both chickens laid eggs on the very first day here. How cool is that?
