Book of Mormon in 24 Hours

Gabby set a goal to earn her Young Women's Personal Progress Medallion by the end of the summer.  She has worked hard on everything, but was struggling with reading the Book of Mormon all the way through.  I told her that we could do a read-a-thon and read the entire Book of Mormon in 2 days.  She was excited about it and we decided to invite a few friends to do it with us.  We invited all Beehives who were working on their Personal Progress as well.  We had Mallory and Parlee (cousins), one girl from our ward, Gabi Johnson, and one friend from Grantsville, Ema Hancock.

We read from 8:00 am thru 8:00 pm on Thursday and Friday with a 5 minute break every hour or so and 1/2 hour lunch and dinner breaks.  We listened to the audio version sped up to 1.5x.  The Isaiah chapters we listened in 2x speed, but we had to stand during them and not take our fingers off the book as we followed along.

We read a few chapters out loud together and had a few discussions, but mostly we just kept a good pace and pushed through each day.  What an amazing experience!!!!

I gave the girls multiple reading charts to fill in and they could pick their favorites.  They could color a bit during the reading, but we had a rule of no sleeping and no cell phones.  They marked many scriptures and wrote down questions to study at a later time.

They all felt a little stir-crazy by the end, but all of them loved it and said only positive things about the entire experience.  It was a very unique way to read the Book of Mormon and I can't wait to do it that way again some time.  I'm proud of these girls for their desire to read and to be such good examples.  I'm excited to see them all get their medallions.
